Tis the Season for Credit

By Leni Parrish on October 14, 2007

There are less than 71 days until Christmas – and we are just entering the biggest shopping season of the year!  I’m determined to pay for most everything with cash this year – because I can remember all too many years gone by when I charged more than I should have and paid for it (and paid for it, and paid for it…) later in interest and finance charges.

Then I realized I would be missing out on some fabulous reward programs I could take advantage of.  I buy for about 10 kids between my own, the nieces and nephews, and a few close friends.   (not only do they all celebrate Christmas, but each of their birthday’s fall between November 8tht and March 8th- which means ALL of our shopping is done right now!) The kids are all under the age of 5, which means they want TOYS for holidays and birthdays.

The Toys”R”Us & Babies”R”Us MasterCard® offers a rewards program that would benefit you if you’re like me- buying for a ton of short people who spend their time playing with toys!   You know that this time of year is when you start buying like crazy to make sure you’ve got those gifts wrapped and under the tree for the big day, so why not take advantage of the situation and be rewarded for your good insight?!

When you shop at Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us with the MasterCard, you’ll earn four points for every dollar spent on eligible purchases, and one point per dollar on all other purchases.  When you reach 1,000 points, you’ll receive a 10% off reward certificate for your next shopping adventure at Toys “R” us or Babies “R” Us.

With a 0% introductory period with no interest- so that means you can pay your balance off over a few months and pay the same as cash!  And you can use the card again next year when the holiday shopping crunch begins at no additional cost since there is no annual fee.

If you don’t have a lot of toys and baby stuff to buy, you might be more interested in a similar credit card offered through Borders books.  The Borders 3.2.1 Visa card offers no annual fee and the following rewards program benefits:

  • 1,000 bonus points with your first purchase
  • Three points for every dollar you spend at Borders or Waldenbooks
  • Two points for every dollar spend on groceries, dining or gas
  • And one point for every dollar spend everywhere else!
